Everything you need to know about holiday use

Holiday homes at Skiddaw View are for leisure use, not permanent living. Here we outline the difference between caravans and lodges, season lengths, why you can't live on a holiday park, and what you can expect when using your holiday home throughout the year.

Can I live in my holiday home?

No. Skiddaw View is a holiday park; holiday homes cannot be used as permanent residences. Owners must maintain another full-time UK address where council tax is paid and provide proof of that address.

How long is the season and can I use my holiday home all year round?

It depends on the type of holiday home:
• Lodge holiday homes are open for the full 12 months; built to residential spec BS3632, with piped gas and trace-heated water pipes for winter use.
• Static Caravan holiday homes: are open for 9 months (1 March to 1 December); typically holiday spec EN1647.

What is the difference between a lodge and a caravan holiday home?

Mainly specification and season length. Lodges (BS3632) have higher insulation and premium cladding (timber/composite/wood-grain uPVC) and a 12-month season. Caravans are usually EN1647 with aluminium or rigid uPVC cladding and a 9-month season.

What proof of residence do I need to provide?

A recent utility bill, council tax bill or other official document showing your name and permanent residential address. This is required annually.

Are there any residential options at Skiddaw View?

No - we are a holiday park only.

What happens in the winter?

Caravan holiday homes should be drained down to prevent frost damage (we offer a park drain-down service). Lodges have Caraguard drain-down systems and trace-heated pipes, so you can leave them safely and still visit comfortably in colder months.

Does a holiday home require a TV Licence?

If you watch or record live TV (or use BBC iPlayer or other live streaming services) simultaneously at your main home and your holiday home, you'll need a separate licence. If not, you can complete a declaration with TV Licensing.

Is sub-letting allowed?

Commercial sub-letting is not permitted. Non-commercial use by close friends and family is welcome.
